Evidence before spectacle.

The system is optimized for clear extraction, but extraction never outranks factual discipline.

Source hierarchy

  1. NOAA and NOAA Ocean Exploration.
  2. MBARI, WHOI, Smithsonian Ocean and comparable research institutions.
  3. Peer-reviewed research where an institutional explainer is insufficient.

Question admission

A question becomes a page only when it is distinct, answerable, sourceable and useful. Search volume is a demand signal, not permission to create thin or repetitive pages.

Direct answers

The first answer is written to stand alone. It avoids unsupported absolutes, separates normal behavior from exceptional events, and states uncertainty when the evidence does not support one cause.

Zone boundaries

Educational sources sometimes use slightly different depth boundaries. This site uses 0–200, 200–1,000, 1,000–4,000, 4,000–6,000 and 6,000–11,000 meters as a consistent publishing convention and cites the underlying sources.

Video synchronization

The article record is canonical. The final reviewed script may expand it, but cannot contradict it. Video schema activates only after publication metadata and the final transcript are present.
